Underneath it All

Underneath it All
My project was inspired by the world we live in. It is so dirty with the trash that we and others leave behind that it covers all  of natures beauty. I used grass, a water bottle, and scraps of paper I found on campus to build my project. The grass represents nature, the bottle represents a shell we cover nature with and the scraps of paper are, of course, trash. So underneath all the trash in this world there lays nature waiting to be discovered.

The Fun's A Cover-up

My project consists of A complete packet of styrofoam cups, newspaper, shoe box, plastic lids, ciggarette butts and carton, ballons, pennies, string, and carbaord pieces. All of this garbage was found on the beach. It is supposed to be a sand castle meant to represent how everyone thinks the beach is fun and clean (Top of Project). But once you get there and begin to realize everyone elses garbage(Inside of project) on this beautiful beach. Therefore my project was created to express how the fun is just a cover up to the truth, under all of the fun there is a never ending supply of trash on the beach.

Recycle, and Reduce

The world around us is always changing, for the better or for the worst. Everyday more and more trash surrounds us and the environment, and we as the new generation of humans, have to work together to stop companies from making more and more plastic, the devastating, non degradable material. Lets Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce our trash, and lets come up with a plan to save the world from a nearing apocalypse.

just do it

We found this trash on the beach. I thought it was a big wake up call. Not many people know that their trash leads to the ocean and has a big impact on it.  We are destroying our environment. We need to do something about it. So I used the Nike slogan, "Just Do It" because that is just what we have to do.

Our Future Map

I glued trash on the map of the world to emphasize the garbage that is in the ocean. My professor told our class about a big pile of trash in the ocean that appears to be an island from far away. I wanted to show everyone that the trash the we are dumping in the ocean is actually adding up and soon there might be garbage islands all over our planet.

Greetings From California by Chester Manlangit

When you go to a tourist shop in Los Angeles, there are always postcards. On those postcards there are always pictures of the Hollywood sign, but also there’s also pictures with California’s beaches and palm trees. Our California water is depicted as crystal clear and magnificent, but when you take a closer look you see a lot of plastic, cigarettes, and other harmful materials. For my art project, I made a postcard. In this postcard, I wanted to show that although people might think of California as the state with palm trees, sunny skies, and beautiful beaches, as we continue to pollute our ocean more and continue our bad habits, in the future, California will be known for all of the trash that makes up our city. For my postcard I used a plastic bag to represent the sand, a dirty blue paper to represent the ocean, a bottles wrapper as the palm tree branches, cigarettes as the palm tree trunk, a Corona bottle cap as the sun, and water bottle plastic as the clouds. In the postcard, there is one fish in the ocean, and a fisherman has just caught it. This is symbolic because if we keep on polluting our ocean with plastic, Styrofoam, cigarettes, and other harmful materials, many of the marine life will die.

BLOOMING FLOWER

With my project I tried to portray a blooming flower. I was surprised at some of the trash I found, such as the glass cup. I wanted to create a flower, because I wanted to show how beautiful things can be created out of things people consider trash. To form my flower I used the cover of a soda cup and a straw. I also, used cigarette buds as the soil for my flower since they are found everywhere. I put bottle caps around the cup, because just as cigarette buds, bottle caps are everywhere like if they were part of nature. People need to learn how to dispose of their trash properly, so they wont harm our environment.

How Much the Little Things Count

My art project represents how the smallest things can have the biggest impact. In my project I drew a fish with soda cans representing the scales but also how something as simple the caps can end up floating and it can end up in the fish’s stomachs thus the caps being in the mid-section of the fish. Fishes and birds die from the small objects that are thrown off into the ocean so that’s what my fish represents how much the tiny things count.

Inspiration Board,save the planet

In my poster I put pictures of words I cut out from magazines that were thrown away. I cut out eyes because although there are global issues, we all have our own perspectives of how we view earth and global warming. I put the words actions and lasting impact because all our actions have a big impact on the world. For example, if you recycle it helps preserve the earth and if u doesn’t it hurts it. I put a cigarette in the collage because cigarettes are all over beaches cities and our streets, which is harmful in many ways I used a ping pong ball and covered it with a balloon to resemble our world and an old pair of earring’s from the floor to represent glaciers. I also wrote stop ice from melting, because that is a current concern and concept of global warming that is harming our climate and planet. Overall my project was a dream chart of quotes that inspire me to help change the damage we made and to help me think of what must be done to save our plant.

Dead Beach

The number one trash on the beach is cigarette buds. I decided to make my art project reflect that. I made a beach made out of cigarette buds, tobacco and balloons that I found on the beach. I used the cigarette tobacco to create an illusion of the sand. I used the balloon, the dark blue balloon to represent the sky and the light blue balloon to represent the ocean. I stuck some cigarette buds to make the beach realistic. I wanted the message of my art project to be that we shouldn’t litter our beaches if not maybe one day our beaches might actually look like my creation.

Garbage Fish

I Chose to create a fish out of the items that i found at the beach because it represents how i feel about the condition of the ocean. This fish consists of cigarette buds, a plastic bottle cap, aluminum foil, cardboard, a very small piece of straw, 2 strips of paper off the sides of bottled beverages, and little pieces of Styrofoam. These items are all toxic and not good for the well being of the wild-life around the beach. When these items get into the ocean it pollutes the water, eventually fish end up eating these things because they mistake it for food. Its our responsibility to clean up after ourselves so that our trash does not have a negative effect on these creatures.

Nature Valley 100% Natural

My art project is titled “Nature Valley 100% Natural”. The title is located at the top of my art project. The significant of this title is that nature is 100% natural. I included multiple pictures of how beautiful and precious nature is. Because of that, we need to preserve it. We, humans, are the cause of making nature less natural. The sea and the air are being destroyed by us. This is why I included the picture of the sea and air at the bottom of my art project. In order to preserve nature, we need to clean up after ourselves. In the center, I made a miniature trash can. On the trash can, I wrote “TRASH HERE! It’s a Trash can! USE IT!” The phrase “USE IT!” is repeated multiple times because I wanted to emphasize the usage of a trash can. I am making a call to action for people to use a trash can. Most of the time, people would throw their trash on the ground because they are lazy. It’s simple to throw trash into a trash can. I am also making a call to action with the phrases “YOU CAN HELP PRESERVE” and “TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE”. Everyone is responsible for preserving nature. Together we can make nature 100% natural.

Earthfill

The planet is subjected to constant greenhouse gases, pollution to it’s seas, oceans and air, and indifference towards the global warming epidemic. Although there are constant attempts to decrease the amount of CO2 throw into the atmosphere , the earth is already damaged and everyday it is polluted. If we do not set in place any laws that prohibit the dumping of toxins and chemicals into the oceans or land, the earth will never see improvement. If we never take action, the earth will never prosper again.  My art represents our own part in polluting the earth, and that we must within ourselves, make change. Unless change can happen, the same atrocities will continue to occur and the earth will become one giant landfill. The box is in general a concept and it symbolizes society, ourselves, or to whomever is polluting the earth. The tunnel also symbolizes all the things that we are putting into the earth, such as greenhouse gases, chemicals, oil, plastic and far too many things to list.

The Flight of the Modern Bird

After collecting trash in my neighborhood, and I crafted a bird from the junk I found. I used the remains of a soda can, and soda can holder as wings. I also stuffed it with plastic bags, which was the most plentiful junk I found. After finding and picking up a lot of paper I made paper cranes to follow my bird. Birds eat so much plastic that they are mostly plastic in the end so I made this bird from plastic because of the irony. I wanted to show what birds will end up as plastic if we don’t help and clean up.

Junk Wars by: Elvina Begi

On one side of my project, it portrays how our Earth should be: land and water; the other side is what we have set ourselves into becoming. A world filled with filth and junk and garbage is how our lives will end up if we continue this crime and put not only our lives but many other animals and plants in danger. It is funny how most of us do not realize how bad our trash is getting until you actually pick all the trash up and make a project out of it showing what we have turned our planet into. We need to preserve everything we can on Earth since this is all we have, and need to protect everything by reducing our waste and saving the environment one plastic bottle at a time.

"The Shore of Debris" by: James Pineda

The Shore of Debris embodies what we see at the beach today. The combination of plastic bags, straws, disposable cups, bottles, wrappers, and cigarette butts are a common sight on our beaches today. The blue portion of the project is the water made out of a plastic bag. The plastic shows that it is common item floating in our waters along with cigarette butts, Styrofoam pieces, candy wrappers, and straws. In the water we can see trash floating and we can avoid it because we can actually see it in front of us. The birds and fish see the same thing but consider the items floating as food, in which would place their health in jeopardy. The brown portion is also out of a plastic bag representing the sand on the beach. On the sand we encounter plastic cups, beer caps, bottles, straws, wrappers and cigarette butts; either it washed up on shore or it was left behind by people. The danger now shifts towards us; the sand buries the debris and the visibility of these items is reduced. What we cannot see is still a hazard; children may unknowingly hurt themselves or put their health at risk by playing with these items. Trash is dangerous; whether it is an item floating in the sea or hidden under our own feet.

The Shield by Timmy Chen

Although I did not go to the beach clean-up, I decided to look for trash around my neighborhood that I would expect to find at the beach. As you can see, I was rather successful in finding a bunch of cigarette buds and other pieces of plastic. My art project is basically a shield cut out from cardboard and then I glued on the things that I found. It contains cigarette buds, bottle caps, a piece of plastic that looks like it used to be a part of a plastic bag, paper, and some pennies. The message that I'm trying to convey is that we should protect our beaches from things such as plastic and cigarette buds. It creates a very unsightly and unsafe environment not only for humans who want to go to the beach, but also for the wildlife that live there.

Trash Camera by Timmy Truong

For my art project I collected trash from the beach and around my neighborhood. The things that I used were scrap metal, a pizza box, cardboard, string and paper. For my project I immediately thought about making something related to photography. Photography is something I greatly enjoy and is a hobby of mine. I thought it would be great to make a pinhole camera out trash to represent how trash is such a big part of modern life.  Whether people notice it or not on the street every few feet there is most likely trash scattered around. Most people try to avoid trash when taking pictures by moving people away or changing camera angles to keep it out of the picture, having a camera made of trash reminds us just because you can’t see it does not mean it’s not there.

KILLING BOAT

My art project was built out of trash I found at Dockwelier beach. It contains plastic, a wooden pencil, Styrofoam, cardboard, and pistachios. My art is a small boat that says "I kill" because boats are killing numerous of sea creatures. Boats also capture several fishes daily for money, but the scariest part is that we the humans built this killing machines and we are causing this upon ourselves. Everything that my boat was built on is junk that kills fishes, birds, animals, and can cause a human to die as well if he eats a fish that has plastic in their system.

Fistic by Regina Taing

This is Fistic. He is a project I made with the trash I collected, such as a Pepsi bottle, water bottle cap, chip bag, and cereal box. His name is a combination of fish and plastic because aside from his outer fish appearance, I included small Styrofoam cup bits to show the process of a fish consuming plastic. Where does the plastic go after he consumes it? Nowhere, because nothing on the world can digest plastic. It stays in his system and clogs up his intestines, causing him to die. As a result, to save sea and animal lives, we must reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic, and stop littering.

The Blooming Flower - Connie Chu

The Blooming Flower - Connie Chu
The Blooming Flower is composed of plastic caps, straws, a plastic cup, and a plastic lid. Growing flowers take a lot of time, love, and patience.  In order for flowers to bloom, it must be taken under great care. It needs to be watered everyday and fertilized once in a while. Planting flowers is similar to taking care of the Earth. Earth requires a lot of maintenance and care. By reducing carbon emission and water usage, it would improve the health of the environment.  The effort is definitely worth it when the beautiful flower blooms and when the earth is cleaner.  If we are good to nature, nature would reward us in its ways.
