Killer Plate

The Killer Plate

I created this to resemble a typical dinner plate our families and ourselves would normally eat. A piece of chicken, with green peas and a salad on the side, looks delicious right? Truth is this "dinner plate" is more like a killer plate. The piece of chicken you see here was created using 2/4 of the bottle caps I found at the beach, tied together with a pair of headphones I also found at the beach. The "green peas" at the side of the "chicken" are about 1/4 of the cigarette butts I found along the hill. Finally our delicious "salad" with tomatoes on top is simply tissue paper with 3 of the 4 batteries I found as well. The "plate" used for our meal is a cardboard box I found with tons of paper inside. The reason why I want this to resemble our real food is to illustrate how easily sea animals or birds can mistake our trash for food and end up consuming it. This creates them to feel full and finally end up starving themselves to death. This is not fair...if you would not eat this... then why would you let our animals eat it?

Little Things

Little Things
My project was me gathering pieces of trash around where I live.  I mostly ended up picking up small things like wrappers and receipts.  I also found what can be raffle tickets of some sort.  I noticed that a lot of the pieces are things that could have possibly fell out of a pocket or bag.  Also, things that people may throw on the floor thinking that one little piece of trash won’t make a big difference in the world, but what they don’t realize is that every little thing makes a difference toward the environment.

Recycled Waste
The idea or inspiration for me to come up with this art is the toxic waste. Therefore, I chose to fill out a skull out of fish formed waste. The little waste it includes are plastic, cardboard, and wrappers. I chose to put a toxic looking background for the purpose of the waste to represent toxic. I cut out trash in for of fish to represent that those pieces or material of trash are toxic and can in fact kill fish.

Clean After Yourself

Clean After Yourself
Are oceans are becoming our dumpsters. We find at the beach objects that can hurt us such as sharp wood, plastic knives and much more. However we are not only hurting ourselves but our planet too. Our oceans gives us oxygen, stores CO2 and gives us food so, why are we hurting it? We are leaving trash to the beach that will give food to the sea animals and who eats seafood, we do. The animals are going to be made out of plastic that later we will consume. The little trash we leave behind will be eaten by little animals then the chain will keep on going the larger fish is going to eat the smallest. So if you want to eat plastic or swim in plastic get up and throw your own trash from the beach.

Walking trash can

My art project consists of trash I collected from around my neighborhood. What I came up with was a stick figure made out of trash and also a bag of trash. The story behind this is that we as people are the reason for trash around our neighborhood and beaches. Over the years humans have become so lazy to walk a few more feet to throw their trash into a trash can. So essentially we cause for trash to end up in our beaches and hurting the marine animals. We are the cause why some animals are being extinct, we are the reason why many marine animals are dying. We need to stop littering and stop being so lazy to throw our trash into the trash can.

Feed Me!

After I learned from the Heal the Bay presentation about why we, humans, should keep our beaches clean, and how the oceans, as well as other water sources, benefit our planet, I decided to create a model of a sea turtle for my "art project." As many people are aware, sea turtles are one of the many animals on Earth that are endangered species. The reason why is because many oceanic areas carry harmful contents that sea turtles would be mistaken as food. For instance, when a balloon pops after being released into the air, the latex fragments may take shape of a jellyfish, which is one of the food sources sea turtles eat. For my model, I used a banana peel for the turtle’s limbs, and used krazy glue to paste the limbs onto a styrofoam I found cut in half. Next, I used advertisement pages and newspapers that were going to be disposed, topped it with seaweed found on the beach, and wrapped it with a plastic bag that was torn after holding newspapers. The reason why I used seaweed as part of my model is because I wanted to identify the reality and expectation of what sea turtles eat. In other words, many of us believe that sea turtles would consume greens and little critters, but in reality, turtles would also eat pieces of plastic, papers, or any trash that were thrown away in the wrong place.

Growing Trash

I call this project "Growing Trash", it is called this because trash is everywhere and instead of us growing plants trash is being grown on the ground. For my project I went around my neighborhood and looked around for any trash I saw. When I was walking around I didn't notice before how much trash there is on the ground. I did not notice trash before on the ground since I was minding my own business. On my project I used trash that I found, some of the items I found were a magazine, Gatorade top, cup, bag of chips, receipts, a net, straw, candy rappers, and a fork. My whole project is 100% trash and I made a flower growing out of trash, a pot with dirt, and a butterfly. I felt great knowing I helped the environment and good knowing my small help did a difference.

Under the Sea
My art project is called Under the Sea. Under the Sea is my representation of the ocean; in particular sea creatures which are harmed by the amounts of trash thrown into the ocean. My project represents the damage trash, especially plastic, creates towards sea creatures as it flows into the ocean. I chose to incorporate more plastic into my art project because it is a dangerous compound that contains harmful elements that are not safe for sea creatures. I focused more towards seas creatures because they are an important factor for our food system. By harming these creatures we are harming our own health as well. Within my project I drew fishes swimming towards the trash. The purpose of these fishes is to convey my message about warning individuals about these crucial issues that are presently going on in our environment.

Plastic Fish
During my neighborhood walk to pick up trash for my art project, I did not realize how much water bottles and newspaper were down a block from my house. I just wish people would be responsible enough to pick up their trash and put the trash in a trash can. I also saw a few candy wrappers and other pieces of trash lying on the ground. If only people would take a moment and think about throwing trash on the sidewalk or on the street has a huge impact on our environment. I chose to make a plastic fish to symbolize how much plastic that fish are eating. When a fish eats plastic it can put toxins into the fish, which is widely thought to stunt their growth, alter their reproduction, or even kill them. I put pieces of trash inside the plastic fish to show what other things that fish are mistake as food. People need to care about this because the seafood that we eat can have plastic which is bad for us as it is bad for the fishes.
